Another future disaster slides quietly into our post-modern wake, the story went around a coupla weeks ago about, presumably, poor, uneducated Asians immigrants (not us proper white folks) feeding their kids Congee rice gruel laden with mercury contaminated fish. Minamata Disease is devastating to young nervous systems and used to be extremely rare. (Minamata, in the seventies, was the first recorded mass contamination. Used for gold extraction, mercury poisoning is now endemic in Africa and other third-world nations, ditto for Arsenic.
In 2008, we're being told that all large pelagic predators, worldwide, are contaminated, and it begs the question -- If the freemarket system has been so demonstrably cavalier with deadly heavy metals, how can comrade Ziggy possibly say that Uranium is a safe material to sell to anyone, anywhere, anytime. The Nuclear Industry will finish what Greenhouse has started. Capitalism is the disease, animal greed inspires it. All the world's cockroaches are cheering.
